Dalby is a town located approximately 208 km west of Brisbane, in the Western Downs Region of Queensland, Australia. The area around Dalby was originally inhabited by the Jagera people, who were part of the larger Western Jagera language group.

European settlers arrived in the Dalby area in the mid-19th century, and the town was surveyed and named in 1853. The name Dalby is believed to be derived from either the Celtic word for 'field', or the Old Norse word for 'town by the valley'. The town grew rapidly during the 1860s and 1870s, with the discovery of coal in the nearby town of Jondaryan leading to increased economic activity in the area.

Dalby was officially declared a municipality in 1863, and became a shire in 1903. In the decades that followed, the town continued to grow and develop. The Dalby Hospital was established in 1911, and a new courthouse was built in 1930. The town's first high school, Dalby State High School, was opened in 1960, and today the town is home to several schools and educational facilities.

The agricultural industry has played a significant role in the economic development of Dalby and the surrounding Western Downs Region. The area is known for its production of wheat, cotton, sorghum, and livestock. In recent years, the town has also become a major centre for the development of renewable energy, with several wind and solar farms located in the area.

Dalby has a rich sporting history, with a number of local teams and clubs having enjoyed success at state and national level. The town's rugby league team, the Dalby Diehards, have won numerous premierships in the Toowoomba Rugby League competition. The Dalby Wheatmen, the local rugby union team, have also won multiple premierships in the Darling Downs Rugby Union competition. The town is also home to several other sports clubs, including cricket, netball, and soccer teams.

Dalby has a number of notable historical buildings and landmarks. The Dalby War Memorial Clocktower, located in the town centre, was erected in 1921 to honour local soldiers who had died in World War I. The Dalby Pioneer Park Museum is a popular tourist attraction, showcasing the history of the town and surrounding region. Other notable landmarks include the Dalby Railway Station, which dates back to the early 20th century, and the Dalby State School, which was established in 1874.

Today, Dalby is a thriving regional centre, boasting a population of over 13,000 people. The town has a strong community spirit, with a vibrant arts and cultural scene, and numerous events and festivals held throughout the year. With its rich history, stunning natural scenery, and diverse economy, Dalby is a town that continues to go from strength to strength.
